Joomla 3 to 4 to 5 Migration Tool

Overview

TTB Joomla Migrator turns a Joomla 3 → 4 → 5 migration into a staged, auditable workflow instead of an unsafe direct jump. It checks the server, inventories third-party extensions, records available compatibility evidence, scans local extension code for known migration risks, requires a backup checkpoint and delegates Joomla core extraction to Joomla's official Update Component.

What it does

• Guides Joomla 3.x to Joomla 3.10.12 when a final Joomla 3 patch is required.
• Controls the Joomla 3.10.12 → Joomla 4.4.14 migration gate.
• Controls the Joomla 4.4.14 → Joomla 5.4.8 major-upgrade gate.
• Inventories third-party components, modules, plugins, templates, libraries and packages.
• Classifies installed extensions as SAFE, WARNING, UNKNOWN or BLOCKER.
• Refreshes available vendor/update compatibility evidence without treating a future version as proof that the installed version is safe.
• Runs a local source-risk scan for known removed/deprecated Joomla API patterns relevant to the next target.
• Prevents hard blockers from being manually overridden as SAFE.
• Allows evidence-backed manual review of non-hard warnings and unknowns.
• Requires an explicit restorable-backup reference before a stage can be prepared.
• Freezes the exact prepared source and target versions.
• Uses Joomla's official Update Component for the actual core update.
• Verifies the completed Joomla version before another stage is allowed.
• Invalidates the previous backup confirmation after every completed major stage so a fresh scan and backup are required.
• Keeps a persistent migration journal and a clear remediation summary.

Installation

1. Upload the ZIP in Joomla Administrator > System > Install > Extensions.
2. Open Components > TTB Joomla Migrator.
3. Follow the route shown by the component; do not skip directly from Joomla 3 to Joomla 5.
4. At every major gate: refresh evidence, run the local risk scan, resolve blockers, review warnings, test the site and confirm a fresh restorable backup.
5. Click Prepare next migration stage only when the safety gate is ready.
6. Use Open official Joomla Update and let Joomla perform the core update.
7. Return to TTB and verify the completed stage before continuing.

Requirements

• Supported commercial route: Joomla 3.x → 3.10.12 → 4.4.14 → 5.4.8.
• Live-tested staged workflow from Joomla 3.10.12 through Joomla 4.4.14 to Joomla 5.4.8.
• PHP/database requirements are checked for the next prepared target.
• Joomla's official Update Component must be installed.
• A restorable full site + database backup is required before every major stage.

Important

TTB Joomla Migrator is a migration safety controller, not a backup engine and not a universal compatibility converter. Incompatible third-party code must still be updated, patched, replaced or removed. A backup reference entered in TTB is an administrator confirmation only and does not prove that the backup can actually be restored. Hard blockers cannot be bypassed manually.
